Welcome to Math! This course aims to strengthen students’ problem-solving skills with the math
tools that they likely already learned at school. This year, the elementary school level (3-6 grade) students in this class will be entered into the MOEMS (Math Olympia for Elementary and Middle School Students) contests as a team. I will prepare you for the contests by solving past MOEMS problems with you. We do not have a team for the middle school division, so the 7th and the 8th graders are not entered into the MOEMS contest. However, I will work with the 7th and 8th graders on problems appropriate to them to improve their math skills.
MOEMS Contests (each 30 minutes long) will take places in class on the days indicated below:

Course Learning Goals:
课程目标:
1. To learn math problem solving skills, such as making a list, drawing a picture, induction, and elimination.
2. To be prepared for the MOEMS contests.
3. To develop good problem-solving habits, such as summarizing conditions and the question asked at the beginning, and double checking the answer at the end.
4. To learn and have fun with math!
Course Supplies (will be supplied):
1. Pen or Pencil
2. Notebook to use as scratch paper.
3. Three ring binder to hold course materials.
4. We will mainly use problems from MOEMS Contest Problems Volume 3. There is no need to buy the book. I will provide printouts of questions and solutions.
