教师介绍 Teacher's Bio

史晓霞教授出生在中国河南省的一个小乡村，母亲是村里最棒的心算能手，父亲则是村里第一个高中毕业生。或许是受母亲的影响，她从小就十分喜爱数学。十六岁以地区状元的成绩考进大学，成为村里第一个大学生。后又考入北京大学经济学硕士项目，继而进入耶鲁大学经济系并获得博士学位。耶鲁毕业之后加入威斯康星大学至今，现为经济系讲习教授兼格兰杰研究所主任。数学除了爱好之外还成了史老师的饭碗。她的工作的很大一部分，从某种意义上讲，就是给自己出数学题再把它做出来。做这样的研究工作，跟很多其他研究工作一样，卡壳的时候比顺畅的时候多多了。但是卡壳之后是想出答案豁然开朗时无上的愉悦。这种愉悦千金难买。所以她觉得这个工作是世界上最好的工作啦！

Professor Xiaoxia Shi was born and raised in a small village in Henan Province in China. In her village, her mother was better at mental arithmetics than anyone. Perhaps influenced by her mother, she has always loved math. She entered college at age 16, after getting the highest score in the entrance exam in her district. She later obtained masters degree from Peking University and PhD degree from Yale University both in economics, a subject that heavily uses math. Now, she is a chaired professor in the economics department of UW Madison and the director of the Julie Plant Grainger research institute. Doing math is both her livelihood and her hobby. A big part of her job is to create math problems for herself and solve them. In her work, like in many other scholarly pursuits, she is stuck more often than not, but getting stuck is a necessary step to getting the solution. The epiphany at the moment that a solution reveals itself is worth anything in the world. She thinks that it's a miracle that she gets paid to do this!
